The project titled “Civic Effort for Governance: Preparation of National Governance Indicators” has been successfully completed, and a report has been prepared by the Alternative Foundation. The report outlines a participatory, evidence-based initiative to develop Nepal’s first civil society-led National Governance Indicator, aimed at strengthening democratic governance, transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Drawing on extensive literature review, stakeholder consultations, perception surveys, expert interviews, and national-level validation, the report identifies critical governance gaps and proposes a robust indicator framework focusing on policy effectiveness, integrity, inclusion, and public trust. The initiative responds to persistent public concerns about corruption, weak institutional accountability, and limited citizen engagement, and provides a practical tool to monitor governance performance and inform policy reform across all levels of government.
