About Us

Alternative Foundation is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC) and is annually granted by the Government of Nepal. Established in 2020 and based in Kathmandu, the Foundation is an independent, non-partisan ‘think tank’ organization committed to promoting social transformation through the integration of science, nature conservation, and humanity. Alternative Foundation has emerged as a collaborative platform for thinker, researcher, academies, professionals and social activists, committed to driving inclusive and sustainable development. Our motto is “Think Alternative! Do Alternative!!” The question of nation-building is not a matter for just particular individuals; it is a matter of collective concern and joint contribution. Therefore, being conscious citizens and a think tank organization, we consider it our foremost responsibility and duty to think and do for the nation and contribute to the nation-building. Our work spans key thematic areas including nature conservation and climate change, good governance, equity and justice. These efforts are strategically aligned with Nepal’s 16th Five-Year Plan, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the LDC Graduation. We adopt the science based approach to shaping development trajectory.
