Good Governance
Good governance is central to achieving sustainable development, justice, and peace. The Alternative Foundation promotes democratic governance by strengthening systems of accountability, transparency, rule of law, and inclusive decision-making. It works to ensure that public institutions function effectively, uphold citizens’ rights, and respond to the needs of all, especially the underrepresented. The Foundation also advocates for the decentralization of power and participatory governance that includes the voices of marginalized groups, youth, and women in policymaking.
Through policy advocacy, legal reform, institutional strengthening, and civic education, the Foundation builds the capacity of both state and non-state actors to uphold democratic values and practices. It also monitors governance performance and encourages citizen oversight to ensure integrity in public service delivery. This thematic area is led by Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal, Former Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal and former Ambassador.
