Project Title
Civic Effort for Governance: Preparation of National Governance Indicators
Project Objective
To develop a robust, credible, and citizen-driven Governance Indicator Framework for Nepal that reflects public perception, supports evidence-based policy reform, enhances transparency and accountability, and strengthens civic engagement in governance processes.
Project Description
This project is a pioneering initiative led by the Alternative Foundation, supported by funding from the Government of Nepal, aimed at addressing persistent governance challenges through the development of a comprehensive and empirical National Governance Indicator. Grounded in the findings of Corruption Reflection Nepal (CRN) 2023 and other key studies, the initiative responds to ongoing issues such as weak enforcement, political interference, and declining public trust in institutions. It will generate perception-based, behavioral, and institutional indicators through surveys, focus group discussions, and expert consultations. The process will be highly participatory, involving policymakers, civil society, and marginalized communities to ensure ownership and inclusivity. The resulting framework will provide a critical tool for evaluating governance performance, driving policy reform, and institutionalizing transparency and accountability across all three tiers of government.
